Paris Deploys Smart Waste Sorting Robots in Montmartre to Halve Landfill Waste by Spring 2026

Paris, France – November 12, 2025 — Montmartre residents awoke this morning to the arrival of a new fleet of intelligent waste-sorting robots, part of a city initiative designed to reduce neighbourhood landfill contributions by 50 percent within eighteen months. The project, which began its pilot phase on 12 November, features compact robotic units positioned at key public collection points along Rue Lepic and Place du Tertre.

City officials say the technology identifies and separates recyclables, compostables, and residual waste, providing real-time feedback to users and local authorities. “Montmartre’s community spirit is driving this transformation,” said Deputy Mayor Claire Dubois. “We’re seeing enthusiastic participation from residents and local businesses alike.”
